HRH Diamond Jubilee Tour.
Date Published: 06/05/2012
On Thursday 26th and Friday 27th April 2012. Officers from the local community team undertook duties to Police the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Tour as it arrived at Abercynon Train Station.
Her Majesty the Queen arrived at the train station with her Royal Convoy to board the Royal Train which was awaiting her arrival at Abercynon after her visit to Cyfarthfa Castle School at Merthyr Tydfil on the Thursday, the streets were lined with onlookers who could not believe that the Queen was actually in their village. It was an impressive sight for all to see.
The Queen then returned to Abercynon the following morning to embark on her trip to Aberfan Community School, where the school was officially opened by Her Majesty. The Community, Parents and Children of Aberfan and Merthyr Vale attended at the school to mark the event.
After the opening of the school, the Queen left the village of Aberfan via her Royal Helicopter, which even though nearly blowing a few Police Officers hats off was a really impressive and once in a lifetime event.
The whole visit was a success and a pleasure to be part of.
