Clydach

Rural Watch Patrol

Date Published: 18/07/2012
Pontardawe "Rural watch" Officers, Pcso's Mark Jones and Tony Singh worked alongside Clydach "Rural Watch" Officers; Pcso's Suzanne Birch and Dave Titerick.
This was a combined effort to reach out to the rural communities, to meet and greet the farmers and members of the public, to provide a high visibility presence, to provide reassurance when necessary, to detect and deter off road vehicles and to distribute "Rural Watch" signs.
Pcso's Birch and Titerick covered the Craig Cefn Parc areas and Pcso's Jones and Singh covered the Pontardawe areas.

While patrolling the Gellionen Mountain overlooking Pontardawe, Officers stopped to talk to a male and a female, parked up at the roadside in a vehicle.
The male was in possession of a cannabis joint.
Officers from Pontardawe Neighbourhood Policing Team attended and dealt with him by way of a cannabis caution.

Local ramblers who passed while this was going on praised Police for their actions and were impressed with the idea of the "Rural Watch " scheme.
