The South Wales Police Triathlon Team is undertaking a mammoth 180 mile charity cycle challenge to raise money for Velindre Cancer Care.

The gruelling ride will take place this Saturday (5th May), with the team starting in Conwy and travelling through Dollgellau, Aberaeron and Carmarthen before crossing the finishing line in Mumbles, Swansea.

Detective Constable Justin Lott from Bridgend is one of the brave participants taking on the challenge this weekend.

DC Lott said: "I’m looking forward to the race, but it’s certainly going to be tough. If all goes to plan, it should take us roughly twelve hours to get from start to finish.

"We'll be finishing at Verdi's ice cream parlour in Mumbles, who have been fantastic to us throughout and have been collecting money for the cause."

“The team decided to fundraise for a cancer charity this year as it is a disease that affects so many of our family, friends and colleagues.

“After meeting with the staff at Velindre Fundraising and seeing the tremendous work they do, we wanted to take on a challenge to raise as much as possible for this fantastic cause.”

The charity race is one of a series of fundraising events planned this year by the SWP Triathlon Team, culminating in their participation in the Ironman Wales 2012 competition in September.

Last year, the 21 SWP Ironman Wales entrants raised over £8500 for Help for Heroes and other charities.
