Abercynon
ward covers
Abercynon is a community and a small village at the foot of the Cynon Valley, in Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. As a community it contains the villages of Ynysboeth, Carnetown, Tyntetown and the village of Abercynon. It lies at the confluence of the rivers Cynon and Taff, approximately 15 miles north of Cardiff.
The village was the terminus of the world's first steam railway journey when on 21 February 1804 the inventor Richard Trevithick drove a steam locomotive hauling both iron and passengers travelled from the Penydarren ironworks in Merthyr Tydfil to the basin of the Glamorganshire Canal at Abercynon. There are memorials to Trevithick's journey which can be found outside the fire station at Abercynon.
Your local Neighbourhood policing team is based at Mountain Ash Police station. Your PC for the area is PC Huw Pritchard who can be contacted on 07805 301104. This is his community mobile number.
