Bryntirion, Laleston and Merthyr Mawr

The Bryntirion, Laleston & Merthyr Mawr Ward is one of the largest geographical wards in Bridgend County situated to the west of Bridgend Town. Bryntirion area is mainly residential, including the Broadlands Estate which is a large housing development with approximately 2500 homes and shopping precinct. Laleston Village is situated on the outskirts of the town just two miles from the centre of Bridgend. The village landscape is dominated by the tower of St. David’s church. Merthyr Mawr Village lies to the south side of the A48. At the entrance to Merthyr Mawr Village is the ‘Dipping Bridge’ which was built in 15th Century. The sahara like dunes of Merthyr Mawr Warren is an important wildlife habitat and site of scientific interest, which shelters a rich variety of plants. As well as a large residential area, there are various local amenities such as post offices, dentists, schools, retail outlets, places of worship, pubs, hotels and restaurants.

PACT Projects

- Anti Social Behaviour - New Youth Shelter
- This was previously a PACT Priority - Large groups of youths gathering and causing anti social behaviour in the new teenage shelter, The Llangewydd Arms and the shopping precinct. This is usually occurring after 1700 hrs. The youths are drinking in the shelter, walking up past the pub to the shops and causing annoyance and asb.
