Project Title:
Parking Issues on Heol Ger-y-Felin
Nature of Problem:
Vehicles are parking on the near side of the road leading into the estate adjacent to the entrance to the playing fields which are located to the rear of Heol Ger Y Felin. This is causing other vehicles entering the estate to overtake them on the wrong side of the road while travelling around a blind bend. This is occurring on weekends and when there are sports matches on the playing fields. Letters have been issued by Cllr Gwyn John to the football organisations requesting them to park elsewhere and walk a short distance to no avail, the letter from the Highways Dept explaining why they would not take any permanent measures in the area has not been accepted and so the residents decided that this should become the main priority for the Ward. Residents, police and Councillors are to work together to draft another letter to be distributed via the clubs. PC Malone to contact Traffic Management in order to reassess this issue.
Status:
Ongoing

Project Updates

>> Update - 22/06/2010
The issue surrounding the parking at Heol Ger-Y-Felin is being taken forward on 8th July 2010 to the Vale of Glamorgan planning committee. An application has been made for double-yellow lines to be installed at this location to address the parking issues and this will be reviewed by the committee.
>> Update - 04/05/2010
Since letters were originally sent to residents and the football organisations, we have worked closely with the Vale of Glamorgan Council and our Traffic Management Department.  It has been agreed 'in principle' that double-yellow lines will be painted at this location and funding is currently being looked at.  Police cones have also continued to be deployed at the location and where offenders have been identified, parking tickets have been issued.
>> Update - 09/03/2010

It has been agreed that double yellow lines will be placed at this location, but the short term measure of placing police cones out will continue until this time.

>> Update - 12/01/2010
The use of cones, deployed over the weekend periods to prevent motorists parking on the entrance stretch and enforcement will continue on this road whilst a long term solution is investigated by The Vale of Glamorgan council and the Neighbourhood Policing Team. These discussions have been positive and are ongoing. The letter for local residents and for members of the sports club advising them not to park in this location was issued and well received by the sports club committee.
