‘Working in the Community’

The History

The Band and Drums were formed in 1981 and over the years have played for many and varied audiences in the South Wales area, also providing marching music for numerous parades, carnivals and formal occasions.

The Police Band is now internationally renowned with performances in France , Belgium & Malta to celebrate the Dunkirk evacuation of 1940 and the liberation of Northern France/Belgium 1944.

It is the intention of the Police Band to engage with the communities of South Wales at every opportunity and bring with them members of the local neighbourhood policing teams.

Members of the Band include serving and retired Police Officers, Police Staff and Volunteers from the community.

Events

The Band is supported by a small annual grant from the Police Authority, with additional self funding raised through events. The ‘Police Band’ welcome requests for their attendance at future community based events and where possible they will appear free. However due to budgetary constraints on occasions it will be necessary to charge a fee to cover expenses for the day.

A committee deals with all attendance requests and due to heavy demand it is recommended that any requests are submitted many months in advance .

Extremely high standards of deportment and musicianship are maintained by all members. Some of the notable highlights have included performances on the BBC ‘Blue Peter’, ‘Children in Need’, and ‘Songs of Praise’.

So if you feel that your community would benefit from the attendance of the ‘Police Band’, and the support of your neighbourhood policing team then in the first instance contact:
